Products Derivation: Oxygen: Separation of Air by Fractional Distillation based on difference in Boiling Point. Nitrogen: Fractional Distillation of air by additional cooling and recycling by compressor. Argon : Argon is obtained from the air as a byproduct of the production of Oxygen and nitrogen Dissolved Acetylene Gas: Derived by the Chemical reaction of water on Calcium Carbide; then purified and dissolved in acetone for storage in cylinders. Combined Capacity: 2500 m3 per Hour
PROPERTIES Oxygen : Colourless, odourless, tasteless, diatomic gas, Liquefiable at - 183ºC and solidifiable at - 218º C, soluble in water and alcohol. Nitrogen : Colourless, odourless, tasteless, diatomic gas constituting of nearly four fifths of the air, colourless liquid, chemically unreactive, slightly soluble in water and alcohol, combustible, an asphyxiant gas. Argon : As Argon is an inert gas, it does not contribute to the fire, but could help with the extinguishing by reducing the oxygen Content of the air by dilution to below the level to support combustion Dissolved Acetylene Gas : Colourless gas, ethereal odour, soluble in alcohol and acetone, slightly in water.
Density
: 0.91 SAFETY Oxygen : Gaseous - Moderate fire risk as oxidizing agent, therapeutic overdose can cause convulsion. Liquid - may explode on contact with heat or oxidizable materials. Irritant to skin and tissue. No oil shall be used near or at Gas cylinders. Nitrogen : Never allow any unprotected part of the body to touch uninsulated pipes or vessels that contain cold fluids. The extremely cold metal of the container will cause moist flesh to stick fast and tear when one attempts to withdraw from it. Protect system components against physical damage. Check all hoses and transfer equipment before filling them with the liquid. Replace any worn or cut hoses prior to use. Liquid Nitrogen is extremely cold and is under pressure. A complete hose failure can result in a large release of Nitrogen and violent movement of the hose and associated equipment, which may cause severe injury or death. Special care must be taken when depressurizing and disconnecting hoses. Use adequate ventilation. Avoid inhalation.
Never work on a pressurized system. Argon : Do not allow cylinders to slide or come into contact with sharp edges. Argon cylinders may be stacked horizontally provided that they are firmly secured at each end to prevent rolling. Use a "first in - first out" inventory system to prevent full cylinders from being stored for excessive period of time. Keep out of reach of children Dissolved Acetylene Gas : Very flammable (in pure form), dangerous fire risk, burns with intense hot flame; explosive limits in air 2.5 - 80%. Forms explosive compounds with silver, mercury and copper, which should be excluded from contact with acetylene in transmission systems. Copper alloys may be used with caution. Piping should be electrically bonded and grounded.
